Kim Kardashian Traded in for a Dog for Super Bowl ad
60
With January almost half way finished and the Super Bowl nearly visible on the horizon, it’s safe to say that it is that time of year again. Time for the history, the pageantry, the storied tradition – no, we’re not talking about Animal Planets “Puppy Bowl” – The annual Super “Ad Bowl.” The much anticipated event that occurs during the timeouts, quarter breaks and halftime of a typically lame Football game
The “Super Bowl Adstravaganza!”
Much akin to Saturday Night Live sketches, everyone gets all excited for them, just to find out that the sketches are only “okay”.
That is until the one moment, the coup de grâce, and the one or two worthy of being talked about the next day – seeing that you can remember the next day from your binge.
Everyone gets involved with the topic: “Did you watch the Super Bowl yesterday? – Oh yeah! Wasn’t that commercial with the ranchers herding cats hilarious?”
This becomes the topic of “Super Bowl Monday.” Instead of Monday morning quarterbacking conversations about what someone would have done to win the game, the conversation splits to how funny the Doritos commercial was with the pug knocking down the sliding glass door.
With this year being no different, be prepared for it, animals and pets with fill the bulk of the advertisers content and theme.
This is quite apparent for version 2012 where Sketchers, for example, will feature an ad not starring Kim Kardashian - instead a French Bulldog will be holding the reins. Okay, the truth is out there. Yes, Kim Kardashian has been replaced by a dog. Perhaps Sketchers wants to distance themselves from her reputation and 72ish hour marriage to Kris Humphries, maybe they don’t feel she is smart enough to represent their new high tech Go-Run shoes - and no the Bulldog is not Khloe.
The ad itself will feature the K9 Star racing a pack of greyhounds while wearing the high tech footwear, along with Mark Cuban somehow mixed in there.
Staring a little known animal actor does not go without its controversy, however. Sketchers has fallen under scrutiny because it was filmed at a racetrack where an Animal Rights group claims they 'mistreat' Greyhounds.
Unfortunately the dog was not available for comment, but I am pretty sure what he/she would have said, “WOOF.”
So, put on your newly purchased NFL t-shirt - buy your dips, chips, pizza and beer – roll up your sleeves and get ready for February 5th.
The “Super Bowl Adstravaganza” is coming to town and you don’t want to miss it, lest be left out in the cold come Monday morning, the coldness of missing out.
And this year, try remembering to take your bathroom breaks during the game, because that blank look on your face after saying that you saw “it” too, everyone knows that you’re lying.
