Proof: Responsible Pet Owners are Smarter than their Irresponsible Counterparts

Is there anything more infuriating as an argument with a strong willed individual ignorant to the world around them while not giving up on the fact that they are philosophically wrong? Yes, apologies must be made for that sentence running on, but there is a simple explanation.

Be responsible and spay or neuter your pet, it’s that simple. Shelters are overflowing and pet population is out of control, however, the control is simple.

Simply be responsible.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - Bob Barker literally barked about it for the bulk of his 35 year career at the Price is Right, but what some may cry as cliché others shout from the mountain tops.

There are animal rescues by the hundreds doing the tireless work of saving and rescuing animals from euthanasia and homelessness around the clock. Some of which could be avoided if the dog that escaped from the back yard yesterday was spayed or neutered, instead of swinging low or being in heat.

Those whose excuses are not having the financial resources to assist in the cost can click the word here for a link to an organization that can help.

Finally the reasons for the opening rant? A lame argument with a random meathead whose pet was in dire need of a clipping, tea bags swayin’ with his gait - I asked, “Have you ever thought of getting your dog neutered?”

After the spittle flew and flared temper diminished from my asking such a ‘stupid’ question, his response was, “I don’t want to demasculinate my dog.” – Yes, Exact words.

First came confusion from his initial tirade, and then came confusion from what he just said.

“Demasculinate?”

Um, okay.

So please, Spay or ‘demasulinate’ your pet, before something happens worse than what happened to that guy, because he is who represents you if you don’t.

Not only does spaying or neutering one's pet control unnecessary population explosion, it also (in the case of male dogs) may help their personalities and stop territorial marking inside the house, and (for female dogs) help prevent cancer of the reproductive organs.

Good hub, good points. UP, USEFUL and INTERESTING.

Very great article, funny too. I am a proud mama of two "demasculated" chihuahuas!

You are so right. When I was a kid the attitude you describe was common, most men did not want their male dogs neutered as they did not want to be neutered themselves. Fortunately most people have gotten over that. My little boy dog is no less a boy now than he was before he was demasculated.
